Brief
Retired chemist Francesco Leanza is the hands-on proprietor at Podere Salicutti, located five kilometres southeast of the town of Montalcino, just below Gianni Brunelli's Podernovone estate. A focused, diligent grower who prefers to let the quality of the fruit and vintage speak for itself, “I accompany the wine, but I never force it or change its natural course", Francesco's wines epitomise the elegance of good Sangiovese, with flavours of ripe cherries and distinct earthiness and minerality; the mouthfeel is textured and subtle, with understated intensity and structure.
Why We Love Them
Gorgeous, pure Sangiovese with expressive red cherry flavours and earthy, ferrous minerality that epitomise all we love about this grape when grown in the right places and made by the right people. Salicutti's wines are beautiful, featherweight and elegant, but do not be mistaken, there's no shortage of intensity and layered complexity here.
